Flores described herself as a “proud Border Patrol wife” and mother “fighting for a better future” and said she wants to be an example for future generations. Flores’s victory last week in a district Republicans have not held for more than 100 years comes after the GOP poured money and resources into a special election they saw as an early chance to prove they can continue to make inroads in South Texas and among Latino voters.
