The share price peaked at $422 before closing up $13.63 at $419.22. Tesla shares fell marginally in after-hours trading. The saga began in August 2018, when Musk cracked that he was “considering taking Tesla private at $420. Funding secured.” The marijuana joke didn’t amuse the Securities and Exchange Commission, which accused him of misleading investors.
