"There is no one more qualified than JoAnne to assume the role of acting president during this critical moment for our university," said board Chair Mitchell Morgan. "Her lifelong dedication to Temple and the greater Philadelphia community make us extremely confident in JoAnne's ability to unite the Temple community and lead a focused effort on developing and implementing solutions to our key challenges.
Epps joined Temple's faculty in 1985. She was appointed law school dean in 2008 and was named provost in 2016.Wingard resigned amid a surge of violence near the North Philadelphia campus, including the death of The Temple Association of University Professionals was preparing to hold a no-confidence vote regarding Wingard and two other officials, with members citing concerns over falling enrollment, financial issues, and labor disputes.
