A 14-year-old boy died Monday evening after the dirt bike he was riding crashed into a pickup truck near Fairbanks, Alaska State Troopers say.
The boy, who was not identified, was riding along a powerline trail near the Old Nenana Highway as the driver of a pickup left his home in the area, troopers said. The trail crosses the driver’s access road.
The dirt bike struck the side of the truck, troopers said. They responded after receiving a report around 7:45 p.m. A bystander initiated CPR after the accident, and medics took over when they arrived to transport the teen to the hospital, according to troopers spokesman Logan Stolpe. He was ultimately pronounced dead.Generally, he said, when a motorized trail crosses a road or driveway, traffic on both road and trail should slow down and look for cross traffic. ATVs and dirt bikes on motorized trails should yield to cars at roadway crossings unless there is specific marking indicating otherwise.
