The reigning World Champion was expected to gain many positions throughout the race though, such is Red Bull’s dominating pace advantage in race trim early in F1 2023, and that is exactly what Verstappen did as he went on to finish P2 behind team-mate Sergio Perez.
Asked if Hamilton is right in saying that the RB19 is the fastest car yet during his time in Formula 1, Kravitz replied: “Well, a) it is, he’s right, and b) what Hamilton is referring to is the ease at which Max Verstappen was able to pass him on the straight the moment he opened his rear wing flap. “If you put your hand out of your car on a motorway, you can feel the air pressure, the rear wing opens itself up and the airflow goes through and it gives the car a straight-line speed boost, the one car behind it.
