Miller left the game in the second half, opening the door for Demercado to seize the spotlight. With it, Demercado finished with 17 carries, one fumble, one touchdown and a career-high 150 yards.
It’s been a long journey for Demercado to get to this point, on the precipice of his final college game and a chance to play a leading role in TCU’s Cinderella story. “A new opportunity … a fresh start, and let’s take it and run with it,” Demercado said of his decision to stay at TCU with Dykes. “It’s brought me here, and I’ll never regret that choice.”
Dykes sees that in the way Demercado, a 210-pound back, willingly hits the holes his offensive line provides. Demercado has more confidence, though, in something he said he rediscovered this season.Just like he displayed on a 69-yard carry he had against Michigan on New Year’s Eve, and just like he did back at Downey High School.
