Select homeowners and renters in the Garden State have until Jan. 31, 2023, to submit an application for payment worth up to $1,500 from the state's ANCHOR program, which is designed to provide property tax relief for residents.
Residents will begin to receive payments early next year, with them coming via paper checks or direct deposits to recipients. To be eligible, citizens must meet specific income amounts and file a claim with the New Jersey state government by the end of January.The ANCHOR program payments to be delivered in the first half of 2023 apply to"residents who owned or rented their principal residence" on Oct. 1, 2019, according to the state's Division of Taxation.
Homeowners who make $150,000 or less annually will receive $1,500, whereas homeowners who make between $150,000 and $250,000 will get $1,000, per the state. Renters who make $150,000 or less annually are eligible for $450 in relief.More information on the ANCHOR program can be found on the state's website.
New Jersey, which was ranked the third-worst state per YouGov, has some of the highest property tax rates in the United States. Recently, the state's transportation department was reportedly told to stop using humorous traffic signs on the highways.
