Indiana storm victims have been given a little over three more months to file various taxes in the wake of severe storms that occurred in the state a few weeks ago.
The delay issued by the IRS pushes back the deadline for various tax filing and payment deadlines that started on March 31 to July 31. This delay is being enacted after the state experienced tornadoes, severe storms, and straight-line winds on March 31 and April 1, the IRS announced Tuesday.The counties where this delay applies to include Allen, Benton, Clinton, Grant, Howard, Johnson, Lake, Monroe, Morgan, Owen, Sullivan, and White.
This delay also affects when 2022 individual income tax returns and various business returns are due, which was originally April 18. Additionally, eligible taxpayers now have until July 31 to make 2022 contributions to their IRAs and health savings accounts.Indiana was one of several states affected by storms between March 31 and April 1, which left at least 18 people dead. The National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center reported over 60 tornadoes over the two days.
Arkansas, one of the states that suffered from the severe weather, also had its tax deadline for impacted counties pushed back to July 31. Like with Indiana, the full list of areas in Arkansas eligible for this relief is available on the IRS's disaster relief page.
