Nearly 50 percent of households will get a break of more than $500 this year, but it doesn't feel that way to a lot of Americans.

A majority of Americans say their taxes will stagnate or increase as a result of President Donald Trump's tax reform plan, according to a new poll from NBC News and The Wall Street Journal.

The Journal reported that changes in withholdings, which can mean smaller refunds, can create the perception that Americans are paying more to the government. Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders did not initially respond to Newsweek when contacted for comment. But critics have noted that the bill offers large breaks to wealthy people, members of the Trump family and corporations.
