Summer festival season has been announced. The big news: Taste of Chicago will have three preview events in Chicago neighborhoods over the summer, then take place in Grant Park Sept. 8-10.
Also in the lineup, Chicago Blues Festival in Millennium Park in June, Chicago Air and Water Show Aug. 19-20 and Chicago Jazz Festival at the end of summer.
The announcement Monday from Mayor Lori Lightfoot and the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events puts to rest some of the speculation about the impact of the inaugural NASCAR Chicago Street Race in Grant Park and the lakefront over Independence Day weekend. Though Taste is boosted to later, last summer’s Taste also consisted of three neighborhood events as well as the Grant Park festival of food and music in July. Music acts have yet to be announced.
Other returning events include Gospel Music Festival in Millennium Park, the Summer Film Series and SummerDance.“Rest assured, summer is coming,” DCASE commissioner Erin Harkey said in part in the announcement.
