Taron Egerton collapsed on the opening night of his new play, but the actor is making a swift recovery reassuring his fans, 'I'll be back with a vengeance.'
Kingsman actor Taron Egerton worried audiences as he collapsed mid-performance during the opening night of his new West End play, Cock. The Welsh actor has been a terrific young talent since graduating from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 2012, receiving widespread fame for his role as Gary"Eggsy" Unwin in Kingsman: The Secret Service, which adapted the Mark Millar comic of the same name.
The actor was set to take to the stage for previews of his new play, Cock, this weekend at the Ambassadors Theatre in London before it opens on March 15 for a 12-week run. Cock follows the story of a gay couple, played by Egerton and Jonathan Bailey, whose relationship encounters problems when one man questions his sexuality after meeting the girl of his dreams.
Egerton later took to his Instagram the next day to post an update to his story in which he reassured his followers that he was"completely fine" and that he would return to the stage"with a vengeance" on the following day. Egerton also took the opportunity to thank the team at the theatre and his castmates, particularly Harper-Jackson, who he described as"an amazing actor and a lovely person.
While the situation certainly wasn't ideal, it's healthy to see the widespread response to this incident, both in theatre and online, be one of understanding and empathy, seeing Egerton as a person first and a performer second.
