A recent negative life event, such as the loss of a loved one, the loss of a relationship, or the loss of a jobGently ask the person if they have thoughts of ending their life. Often, people are afraid of asking if a loved one or family member is having suicidal thoughts. But in reality, having the opportunity to talk about one’s suicidal thoughts actually helps to decrease suicidal feelings. Communication is key for treating suicidal ideations.
