The 2.4 mile $65-million gondola links the former Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows resorts becoming the third-largest ski resort in North America.
The new gondola at Palisades Tahoe connects that ski destination with Alpine Meadows, its sister resort. But before heading to Alpine, I jumped on Palisades’ Funitel for warm-up laps on the intermediate runs of the upper mountain. The snow was light and fresh, and the temperatures were cool and crisp: perfect ski conditions thanks to this winter’s storms and the deepest Sierra snowpack in 30 years.
The Chalet, a mid-mountain lunch spot at Alpine Meadows, is known for its laidback vibe and Bavarian-style fare — pretzels, bratwurst and draft beer.
