Detectives have described the felling of the Sycamore Gap tree as a 'deliberate act of vandalism'
Police have arrested a man in his 60s in connection with the 'senseless destruction' of a world famous tree. It is the second arrest officers have made after the Sycamore Gap tree in Northumberland was felled overnight between Wednesday and Thursday this week.
A 16-year-old boy was previously arrested on suspicion of criminal damage in connection with the incident. He has since been bailed pending further enquiries. Northumbria Police said a man in his 60s was arrested on Friday evening and is in custody being questioned by officers.READ MORE: The top stories across the M.E.N.
