State medalists head the 2023 Express-News All-Area swimming and diving teams. Swimmers of the Year will be announced in June.
Cronk finished second in the 200 freestyle at the UIL Class 6A state championships with a time of 1:47.82. It was her second state medal in the event after taking third last year. Cronk was also sixth in the 500 freestyle in 4:57.56.Highlights: Scott won double gold at the UIL 6A state championships, winning the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke . Scott, who is signed with Alabama, competed in those events for the first time in high school competition this season.
Scott, who was selected as the Express-News Girls Swimmer of the Year in 2021 and 2022, won the 100 freestyle and was second in the 200 individual medley last year.Spielmann won the 100 butterfly and finished third in the 200 freestyle at the UIL 6A state championships. Spielmann gold-medal time in the 100 butterfly was 53.42. She turned in a time of 1:48.40, finishing right behind Carli Cronk of Churchill.Marafioto was second in UIL Class 5A 1-meter diving with 534.40 points.
