New Jersey has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the country, but after last week's court decision they might consider going after actual criminals rather than innocent gun owners.
A rifle competition at a school in upstate New York.. In New Jersey they might be thrown in jail for carrying a gun. In December of 2019, the U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments in a case in which the New York Rifle and Pistol Association sued the city of New York over a law restricting the rights of New Yorkers to travel with guns, even those that are legally registered.
Alito’s question brought to mind the case of Brian Aitken, who was arrested in 2009 after police found three legally owned handguns locked in his car trunk after he visited his mother in Burlington County. Aitken didn’t help his case by going on the Fox News show of Jersey guy Andrew Napolitano. That got him a scolding from the judge as well as a seven-year sentence.
Did they listen to me? Nope. And last week the Supreme Court stepped in. This time the New York Rifle and Pistol Association argued against New York State’s “may issue” law that requires an applicant to show “justifiable need” to get a permit to carry a gun. New Jersey’s law is similar.said the state law violated both the Second Amendment right to bear arms and the 14th Amendment right to equal protection.
As for the loyal opposition, conservatives were ecstatic. They argued that the decision represents a needed reform to a system that made it next-to-impossible to get a carry permit. The Donald wants to put police in every school in America, but that's a jobs program, not a Second Amendment approach
