But on Monday, the Supreme Court reversed course, lifting its stay and dismissing its decision to hear the Louisiana appeal, saying it took the case prematurely. The court’s decision on Monday is the first big domino to fall after the court issued its decision in the Alabama case —— earlier this month. In that decision, the court reaffirmed a provision of the Voting Rights Act that allows minority voters to challenge voting maps that hinder their collective ability to elect their chosen candidates.
