It starts with Climate Pledge Arena, the venue that cured the most significant obstacle in the Sonics departure and hopeful return for 15-plus years.
A capacity crowd had Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle rocking from start to finish during the Rain City Showcase NBA preseason game between the Los Angeles Clippers and Utah Jazz on Oct. 10, 2023. It's something we've chronicled quite a bit here at KOMO News between the work of Senior Reporter Chris Daniels and myself, but if the NBA needed any more validation that Seattle is ready for a return, it got it Tuesday night.
In a game that didn't count in the standings, where understandably, the Clippers and Jazz rested their stars in the second half,To do it last year, the first NBA exhibition at Climate Pledge Arena, was special but to bring that same energy and then some the second time around? It's proof of the kind of resilient support the NBA would receive upon its return to Seattle.
"I'm not gonna lie, this arena's nice," said electric young Clippers guard Bones Hyland. "As soon as we walked in here, the lights are bright, it just feels like a basketball arena, so it's pretty dope.""It's a beautiful arena, beautiful place, better than some of the actual arenas we've been in," said Clippers starting forward Robert Covington, who is no stranger to the Pacific Northwest from his time with the Portland Trail Blazers.
So a state of the art arena players love, an appreciative and loyal fanbase still rocking their team's colors 15 years after they last took the court and a large media market within a region that needs an NBA franchise.on the record the NBA will look at the idea of expansion once it settles its next media rights deal.
So while Seattle hoops fans wait, they can take solace that by continuing to show their unwavering support, and especially doing so with the NBA watching live on Tuesday night, they've done everything they can within their power to make this happen."We deserve a team here."
