The Super Mario Bros. Movie star Seth Rogen is perplexed by a fart-propelled Kong in the infamous “DK Rap” video. The animated Super Mario Bros. Movie is finally set to arrive in theaters, with Rogen voicing Donkey Kong, Mario’s original video game nemesis. While Bowser later became Mario’s main antagonist in video games, Donkey Kong did continue to be an important Nintendo character thanks to a string of Kong-centered games including the N64’s 3D platformer Donkey Kong 64.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT With The Super Mario Bros. Movie getting set to hit theaters soon, Donkey Kong voice actor Rogen recently got a chance to witness the infamous “DK Rap” in all its questionable glory, and seemed utterly perplexed by what he was watching. Most puzzling to Rogen is the sight of Lanky Kong propelling himself through the air via a fart. Though Rogen at one point calls the song “objectively one of the worst rap songs of all time,” he does later admit that part of it is “actually good.”
The Writer Of The DK Rap Is Thrilled It Might Be In The Super Mario Bros. Movie "The DK Rap” was originally written by Grant Kirkhope, a noted composer who also did music for classic titles like GoldenEye, Banjo-Kazooie and Perfect Dark. Far from shying away from his legacy as the man who wrote “The DK Rap,” Kirkhope embraces his place in video game history, and is even proud to learn that his Donkey Kong rap song might be featured in The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
It is not yet confirmed that "The DK Rap” appears in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, but Rogen does seem to suggest that it actually plays during Donkey Kong's first appearance in the film. Some might question the wisdom of resurfacing such an embarrassing moment in both video game and music history, but The Super Mario Bros. Movie is after all meant to be fun, and fans of classic N64 games like Donkey Kong 64 will no doubt get a kick out of hearing "The DK Rap” if it indeed fires up.
