Summit officials, U.S. Rep. Shontel M. Brown and Ohio Families Unite Against Police Brutality released statements Friday in support of Jayland Walker, 25, who was shot by eight unidentified Akron police officers early Monday.

Police have not identified the officers involved in the shooting. They also have not said how many gunshots were fired, how many hit Walker, or if they found evidence that confirms Walker fired the gun during the chase. “Jayland Walker mattered to his family, to his friends, and to this community,” she said in a statement. “Jayland’s life mattered.”
