Nick Piecoro, The Republic’s Diamondbacks beat writer, found this out years ago when he was a student at Ironwood High School. He left a voice message, and Pedro, who was working at The Republic at the time, promptly called back.“One thing he said about the job was, ‘I don’t consider this going to work, this is my dream. It’s a fitting tribute to Pedro, who knew his way around ASU’s Cronkite headquarters like a member of the faculty.
