Sue Gray, who led the investigation into Partygate last year, took ministers by surprise with her plan to quit the Civil Service and work for Labour Former senior civil servant Sue Gray broke official rules by holding talks with Labour about becoming Sir Keir Starmer’s chief of staff while still in post, a Cabinet Office probe has concluded.

In a written ministerial statement on Monday, Cabinet Office minister Jeremy Quinn said that “the Civil Service Code was prima facie broken as a result of the undeclared contact between Ms Gray and the Leader of the Opposition”. “The rules and guidance that govern the conduct of civil servants are clear and transparent. It is deeply unfortunate that events have transpired in this way,” he continued.

“However, regardless of the details of this specific situation, I remain confident in the impartiality of our Civil Service and would like to take this opportunity to reiterate that it is the responsibility of everyone in this House to preserve and support this impartiality.”that it intended to launch an inquiry to clarify whether Ms Gray violated civil service rules.

10 states, including Mass., plan to sue EPA over standards for residential wood-burning stoves10 states, including Mass., plan to sue EPA over standards for residential wood-burning stovesAttorneys general from 10 states plan to sue the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, saying its failure to review and ensure emissions standards for residential wood-burning stoves has allowed the continued sale of appliances that unduly worsen pollution. They say that means programs that encourage people to trade in older stoves and other wood-burning appliances, such as forced-air furnaces, haven’t necessarily improved air quality. The EPA declined to comment. The states filed a 60-day notice of intent to sue Thursday. Alaska, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Vermont and Washington are involved in the action, along with the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency.
