Subaru shows off new WRX rally car that will dominate rally in America.
Built by factory Subaru partner Vermont SportsCar, the new WRX rally car is based on the very first current-gen WRX road car sold in America, and uses a 2.0-liter boxer-four that makes 320 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque on 22 psi of boost thanks to a 33-millimeter air inlet restrictor. Power goes to all four wheels thanks to a Sadev six-speed sequential. The springs and dampers are from R53, while the rest of the suspension is custom from Vermont SportsCar.
Subaru says much of the development gone into this new WRX focuses on safety. There's a steel FIA-spec roll cage welded into the body, an 82-liter Kevlar fuel cell, and Sparco ADV Prime seats with self-extinguishing fabric liner. The new WRX rally car will make its debut at the American Rally Association's Ojibwe Forests Rally, happening August 24-25.
