'They just cause chaos, they're a law unto themselves - it's not even safe in the daytime'
Kids asking where to buy knives while youths steal firecrackers from joke shops before throwing them into chippies, shouting 'bomb'. This is the reality of what some businesses are facing in Blackpool's battle against antisocial behaviour.
"It's incredible how much we've had taken from the stall. People always say they'd have never have thought that we deal with so much trouble here. There's too many temptations for kids, especially when they're left to their own devices. But the parents let the kids steal things and pretend they haven't seen them. And when we call them out, its like water off a duck's back. There's no shame or embarrassment. They don't care.
A spokesperson for Blackpool Council shut down Mr Benton's claims, calling them "completely untrue". They said there is 'strong evidence' of public bodies working together across Blackpool to make the town safer for all, and to give 'vulnerable' youths behind antisocial behaviour better chances in life.
“As part of our joint response to anti-social behaviour in some central wards, Blackpool will receive a partnership award from the government's National £300m Turnaround programme, which includes £60m for schemes to help stop youngsters falling into crime.
