Stranger Things producer and frequent director Shawn Levy teases that season 5 will be epic in scale, but also a highly emotional affair. First released on Netflix in 2016, the Duffer Brothers' hit horror/ fantasy show has since become one of the streamer's most popular offerings.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Stranger Things season 5 is already shaping up to be the show's biggest yet according to past comments from the Duffer Brothers, but Levy now teases, in a recent interview with Collider, the full scope of what's to come. According to the producer and director, season 5 won't just be an emotional experience for the cast and crew during filming, but will be quite the experience for audiences too.
“I know that Brothers already hinted at this publicly, but when we sat there and heard the two-hour-long pitch-out for the storyline of this final season, I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room by the time the brothers were done... so yeah, this last season will be both epic and very emotional. I think making it will be pretty damn emotional, too, since this show has changed the life of every one of us who have worked on it.
As shown in season 2, Will has some sort of deep-rooted connection to the Mind Flayer, leading many fans to postulate that he could somehow become a vessel for the monster once more in season 5. While it's unclear exactly what role the Mind Flayer will play in the upcoming batch of episodes, Vecna’s final scenes in Stranger Things season 4 make clear that the villain may have been temporarily defeated, but he's far from dead.
Many questions and mysteries remain regarding Stranger Things season 5, but it sounds like the most ambitious outing for the show yet. The Duffer Brothers have previously shown their willingness to kill fairly major characters, including Joseph Quinn's Eddie in season 4, meaning fans could be in for one or more emotional deaths this time around.
