During his Monday press conference, Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian discussed everything from defensive standouts, to injury updates, to curtains going...

The Longhorns have several on-paper advantages coming into this Week 4 conference kickoff, most notably Jonathon Brooks and Texas’ offensive line going up against a Baylor rush defense thatBehind Brooks’ 164 yards on the ground, Texas rumbled to a season-high 185 total team rushing yards during Saturday’s home win against Wyoming. But the stat sheet has a tendency to fly off with the wind when rivals, especially a pair like Texas and Baylor, meet up.

Asked if he would like to see UT continue to play nonconference games against the likes of Baylor, TCU, and Texas Tech beyond this season, Sarkisian said that while he appreciates these as rich rivalries, there are challenges in arranging those sorts of matchups. “I recognize these are great rivalries and games that have been played for a long, long time,” said Sarkisian. “If that’s the direction it ends up going into, that’d be great. I think it’s great for the state of Texas. … I do think one of the challenges with that is, you play Baylor, Tech’s upset. You play Tech, TCU’s upset.”Texas offensive guard Cole Hutson and defensive lineman Kristopher Ross each left Saturday’s win with injuries.

“Both of those guys will be out probably three-to-four weeks. I think we’ll have them both back within about a month,” Sarkisian said. “The good part is they’re not season-ending injuries. The tough part is, they’re significant enough for them to miss a couple ballgames here.” On DJ Campbell’s development as he prepares to potentially take on a greater workload with Hutson out, the coach said: “DJ is a physical guy, he’s imposing on the interior offensive line. He can really move people. But we’re just trying to minimize those one-off errors that pop in every once in a while.”Monday’s practice also brought CJ Baxter’s return from a foot injury.
