The New York indictment remains sealed, but the new state charges are reportedly similar to those Bannon faced federally with Andrew Badolato of Sarasota in August 2020.
Bannon, meanwhile, was pardoned by Donald Trump in one of his last acts in office. The presidential pardon covered the federal crime Bannon was charged with, but it did not shield him from state charges. The Manhattan district attorney's office has reportedly been investigating Bannon since Trump pardoned him.
According to a filing fee application, Badolato stated he had legal bills in excess of $500,000, owes the government $1.5 million in fines, was evicted from the Sarasota home he rented, and has no income. He reported his checking account consisted of $72.Bannon and Badolato have been partners in several failed businesses dating back to at least 2000 and have been connected in several other ways as well.
In 2016, when Bannon was running Trump's campaign, he listed Badolato's former home on Casey Key as his address on a Sarasota County voter registration form. There was never any indication Bannon lived there as required by the state. Meanwhile, when Badolato filled out an application to rent a home in Sarasota County this year, he used Bannon as a reference, even though Bannon had already been pardoned by Trump and Badolato was looking at prison time.
