Slumping Sheldon Neuse sent back to minor leagues as Davidson becomes 44th different player for A’s this season.
Popular catcher Stephen Vogt returned to the A’s active roster Tuesday, joining the team in Atlanta, where he earned a World Series ring with the Braves just seven months ago.
Activating Vogt was merely one of another series of roster moves for the A’s, who made 31-year-old slugging infielder Matt Davidson their 44th different player to be activated by the team this season after selecting him from Triple-A Las Vegas. . The left-handed-hitting Vogt gives manager Mark Kotsay a third catcher and another option at first base. Christian Bethancourt has been Sean Murphy’s backup at catcher for the past month and a half.Bethancourt, who is hitting .228 with 10 RBIs in 101 at-bats, is the only A’s catcher with a homer in the last month. Murphy, whose last home run was on April 29, is batting just .193 with five homers and 22 RBIs and an OPS+ 88, which is 12 points below the league average of 100+.
