Stephen King gives his official seal approval to Lee Cronin’s horror sequel Evil Dead Rise. Over 40 years after Sam Raimi started it all with the original cabin-in-the-woods supernatural fright fest The Evil Dead, the bloody franchise rolls on with a new entry that puts a few fresh spins on the old formula.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Now another voice is singing the praises of Cronin’s Evil Dead Rise, as horror master King has taken to Twitter to give the movie his official seal of approval. “It's gruesome, it's bloody, it's even got an elevator vomiting blood,” King effused, adding, “Not to mention chainsaw-fu.”
How Stephen King Helped Launch The Evil Dead As A Cult Classic King is of course known for crafting his own horror epics like IT and The Shining, but he’s also carved out a space as a critic, handing out his judgments about various horror properties over the years. Indeed, Evil Dead Rise is not the first movie in the franchise that King has slapped his stamp of approval on.
"The Evil Dead has the simple, stupid power of a good campfire story -- but its simplicity is not a side effect. It is something carefully crafted by Raimi, who is anything but stupid... who is so full of talent that anybody unable to get it together might bet tempted to wonder if gobbling the man's fingernails could possibly do any good…"
That rave review by King is widely credited with launching The Evil Dead as a cult film of note, paving the way for the film’s even-more-acclaimed 1987 sequel Evil Dead II: Dead By Dawn and, by extension, all the other Evil Dead films, TV shows and other content that’s been made since.
