Raquel Terán has entered what is expected to be a crowded Democratic primary race in Arizona's 3rd Congressional District.
, D-Ariz., who is running for the U.S. Senate in 2024. The district heavily favors Democratic demographics in such a way that the primary will be the most competitive part of the race, instead of the general election.
Terán was elected last year to represent Legislative District 26 in the Arizona Senate. She joined the upper body of the state Legislature in September 2021 after she waswhen he stepped down. Prior to that, Terán served for a little over two and half years in the Arizona House of Representatives. Immigration is a major issue for Terán. She is originally from Douglas and was brought up on a street that separates the United States from Mexico.
, a controversial 2010 Arizona law that was sponsored by former state Senate President Russell Pearce, R-Mesa, and supported by former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
