Stars head coach Pete DeBoer spoke about Belfour and Hitchcock ahead of Saturday’s game. He noted the goalie’s ability to raise his level at the most important times in a game or a season, which ultimately led him to carry the team to its first and only league title. “He loves to share his knowledge, and that’s rare in our sport,” DeBoer said. “There’s a lot of young coaches out there, myself included, that owe him a debt of gratitude.”“I grew up in Alberta, which was a hotbed of hockey colleges,” he said. “I went to a lot of symposiums where the college coaches said, ‘If you’re not giving back, you’re not helping the game,’ and it really stuck with me.
