Stanley Cup championship goalie Ed Belfour and head coach Ken Hitchcock were at American Airlines Center Saturday for the Stars’ second home game of the season against the Philadelphia Flyers as a part of the team’s second annual Hall of Fame weekend. Stars head coach Pete DeBoer spoke about Belfour and Hitchcock ahead of Saturday’s game. He noted the goalie’s ability to raise his level at the most important times in a game or a season, which ultimately led him to carry the team to its first and only league title. “He loves to share his knowledge, and that’s rare in our sport,” DeBoer said. “There’s a lot of young coaches out there, myself included, that owe him a debt of gratitude.”“I grew up in Alberta, which was a hotbed of hockey colleges,” he said. “I went to a lot of symposiums where the college coaches said, ‘If you’re not giving back, you’re not helping the game,’ and it really stuck with me.
