An urgent warning has been issued:
A veterinary practice in Yorkshire has issued the stark warning after they have been inundated with hedgehogs being seriously injured as a result of people using strimmers to cut hedges. The Beck Surgery in Whitby has now issued an urgent plea to warn people.
On its Facebook page, the surgery said: "Yet another hedgehog has arrived because of strimmers. That's now 5 in the last week. Read more:David Attenborough’s life from wife's tragic death and rarely seen kids to vegan diet and royal link "We'd say check before using a strimmer but honestly we have had enough... don't use them at all. This lady is going straight to our vets to have this massive wound on her forehead tended to.
"She'll likely need to go under anaesthetic, the wound debrided to see how deep this goes, infected tissue removed and if all goes well, she'll be back with us on antibiotics and pain relief for aftercare.The warning comes following an earlier appeal not to cut grass or mow lawn this May or June.
