Darth Vader is the most iconic character in Star Wars, and he's rarely seen without his helmet, which is the most important part of his suit.
Darth Vader is one of the most iconic Star Wars characters in part due to his suit and helmet, the latter of which he's rarely seen without. Vader used to be a Jedi and was a renowned hero during the Clone Wars, but he turned into a ruthless Sith Lord after the dark side corrupted his will, causing him to give up on his true name, Anakin Skywalker.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY With his suit, Anakin becomes Darth Vader, one of the most brutal villains in movie history, and he's able to achieve his full strength again. In the original Star Wars trilogy, Vader's identity behind the mask and helmet is part of a great plot twist. The prequel trilogy then answers how Anakin became the dreadful villain inside the suit.
Darth Vader's Mask Is The Most Important Part Of His Armor Darth Vader's mask enabling him to live is the bare minimum of its importance. The mask also symbolizes the strength of Vader's body and mind, challenging the boundaries of his limited physical body. That is the reason why, as seen in The Empire Strikes Back, Vader takes his helmet and mask off in his meditation chamber, where he can defy death and clear his mind.
The mask also represents the villain's fragility and, of course, his weaknesses, and that's why Darth Vader taking the mask off to Luke at the end of Return of the Jedi is so significant. He's showing his son who he really is, or the person he used to be: Anakin Skywalker.
