A book dedicated to mapping out the Star Wars timeline has confirmed Emperor Palatine’s pre-Phantom Menace life, including his date of birth.
Star Wars: Timelines, a book dedicated to fleshing out the expansive record of Star Wars events, has confirmed the details that led Palpatine up to Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. The book - written by Kristin Baver, Jason Fry, Cole Horton, Amy Richau, and Clayton Sandell - has been widely praised for its attention to detail concerning the Star Wars timeline.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT This extended to a character whose past has been shrouded in mystery since his first appearance in the franchise: Emperor Palpatine. Before The Phantom Menace, all that was known of Palpatine was his brief tutelage under Darth Plagueis and the former's murder of the latter.
In Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, Palpatine was 52 years of age. This means the character was then 62, and 65 years old in Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith respectively. In terms of the original trilogy, Palpatine will have been 84 in A New Hope, despite not appearing in the film.
Palpatine First Entered The Senate In 52BBY Another interesting element of Palpatine's life before The Phantom Menace that can be gleaned from Star Wars: Timeline is when he entered the Senate. According to the book, Palpatine joined the Senate when he was 32 years old in 52BBY. This just goes to show how long Palpatine was planning to take over the galaxy under the guise of the Republic.
The Phantom Menace is set in 32BBY, meaning Palpatine positioned himself as a member of the Senate two decades before his plan came into action. This 20-year gap was likely spent honing his skills with the dark side of the Force and formulating the groundwork for his master plan.
