What is Lucasfilm really planning?
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Star Wars mysterious Dawn of the Jedi movie has been in the works for a lot longer than anyone thought, with David S. Goyer writing a script. At Star Wars Celebration 2023, Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy announced three upcoming Star Wars movies - one of which, set during the "Dawn of the Jedi" era, would be helmed by James Mangold.
It's important to note Goyer doesn't suggest his Jedi origins movie is still in the works; in fact, he seems rather more comfortable talking about that than the Guillermo del Toro film. The implication, then, is that Lucasfilm has been toying with this particular idea for quite some time.Star Wars: The Last Jedi Set Up A Jedi Origins Movie In truth, this was always a logical direction for Star Wars to head after the sequel trilogy.
The timing, however, is very interesting. According to Goyer, the del Toro script was written roughly four years ago; it was presumably abandoned because of major changes in Lucasfilm after the box office failure of Solo: A Star Wars Story and the divisive conclusion of the sequel trilogy. His words imply a chronology, however, meaning he worked on the Jedi origin movie after this point. If that's the case, Lucasfilm has been planning to show the Dawn of the Jedi for years.
