A new trailer for StarTrekPicard season 3 shared as part of StarTrekDay reunites characters from The Next Generation.
A new trailer for Star Trek: Picard season 3 was revealed during the annual Star Trek Day event that reunites the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Alongside Patrick Stewart in his titular role, returning cast members from The Next Generation include Jonathan Frakes, Gates McFadden, LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Marina Sirtis, and Brent Spiner. Jeri Ryan and Michelle Herd also star in the series. Star Trek: Picard season 3 marks the final season of the Paramount+ show.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Following the end of TNG's seven seasons, the cast would go on to star in four feature films to continue their story. The entirety of this cast has not been seen together since their final film in 2002, Star Trek: Nemesis. Frakes, Sirtis, and Spiner have all made earlier appearances on Picard, while it will be the first time Burton, Dorn, and McFadden stop by the show.
Within Star Trek history, this is not the first time a starship has been designated as the U.S.S. Titan. At the end of Nemesis, Riker departs the Enterprise to Captain an earlier version of the Titan. That ship has only been seen on screen with Captain Riker and Counselor Troi in command in the animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks in seasons 1 and 2. Just as the Enterprise has gone through multiple iterations over the generations, the Titan has as well.
While the trailer features the majority of the cast in action, Spiner notably does not appear. Following the second death of his character Data in Picard season 1, it remains unclear what role he will be playing. The only details that have been teased are that Spiner will be appearing as an "old new character" in Star Trek: Picard season 3. The possibilities include Data, B-4, Lore, or another member of the Soong family.
The massive significance of the trailer is reuniting these beloved characters. First appearing together in the pilot of The Next Generation in 1987, they are deserving of a fitting send-off. Even in a world of reboots and remakes, it's rare for a show or film to get the chance to have a second finale.
