The Demon Deacons outscored their opponents 75-16 in winning five games before Saturday. Starting pitcher Rhett Lowder was 15-0 on the season, with flowing locks and a glowing 1.92 ERA.

Starting pitcher Joey Dixon and relievers Drew Dowd and Nick Dugan mostly quieted Wake Forest’s offense. But Dugan and Bruno each issued a walk in the eighth — to Nick Kurtz and Brock Wilken, Wake Forest’s most dangerous hitters — to jump-start the decisive rally.
