Standoff at San Ysidro home prompts lockdown at elementary school [Breaking]
A woman armed with a knife was holed up in a San Ysidro home across from La Mirada Elementary School on Monday morning, prompting a standoff with San Diego police officers, officials said.
Classes at the elementary school continued but no one was allowed to enter or leave the campus — a “secured lockdown” mode — while officers tried to get the woman to surrender, police said. The incident was ongoing as of 10:15 a.m. The incident began when someone called police around 6:30 a.m. and said a family member was breaking items in their home on Avenida De La Madrid. When officers arrived, the family member was inside and refused to walk out. She was armed with a knife, police said.“We’re hoping she comes out,” Officer Scott Lockwood said.
Video from OnScene TV shows parents walking their children onto the campus while officers stood around the house. One officer could be seen firing what looked like pepper balls into the house through a side window. Another officer held a pole-mounted camera near the window.
