It has been told to improve
Staff told inspectors that some training at a Northampton-based care agency was “poor”. In House Care’s carers were “sometimes late” and did not always allow clients to have “maximum choice” over their care. .
The Care Quality Commission visited the agency, which is based in Moulton Park, in September and October and told managers it had breached regulations in three areas in a report published last month. In House Care looks after adults of varying ages who have a variety of conditions including eating disorders, mental health conditions and sensory impairments. It was caring for 29 people when the CQC visited. It found there were not enough staff to always meet people’s needs and medicines were not always managed safely. In one case, a person’s records said they needed to take a particular tablet once every other day but staff had recorded it had been given daily.
Systems and processes were in place to protect people from risk of abuse, as was a safeguarding and whistleblowing procedure. While some clients said complaints were dealt with well, another told inspectors: “Whilst things improve for a while, it usually reverts back again.” A staff member told inspectors that new recruits needed further training and that they feared they may be an accident. Those problems in training impacted clients and their relatives because some relatives felt unsafe leaving their loved ones with less experienced staff.
