Spoon is back with 'No Bullets Spent'
The Austin, TX alternative rock outfit announces a new career retrospective LP and North America tour in support, and they’ve just dropped a new single, “No Bullets Spent.”Hot ThoughtsProduced by Mark Rankin and cut at Eno’s Public Hi Fi studio in his hometown, the track opens with a helping of Daniel's effects-stoked, off-world vocals and hits its straps with a rubber-hipped swagger. "What we need now's an accident / No one to blame and no bullets spent," he sings.
The lineup is complemented by Alex Fischel on keyboards and Gerardo Larios on guitar who, according to a teasing statement from their label, Matador Records, add their own dimension to Spoon whose “recent recording sessions point to, perhaps, a forthcoming new album.” , due out July 26 on Matador. “The idea of doing a best-of came to us a couple times,” frontman Daniel explains in a statement. “First I wasn’t sure how I felt about it but at some point I remembered that when I got my first Cure record it was. That was how I met those bands, and I moved backwards from there but I still listen to those comps. I love a greatest hits LP when it’s done well. It can be a thing unto itself.”
Spoon hit the road next month for a summer trek with Beck and Cage The Elephant, kicking off July 11 at Sunlight Supply Amphitheater in Ridgefield, WA.went to No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult Alternative Songs airplay chart in March 2017, their second leader on the survey after "Do You" ruled for three weeks in late 2014.Watch the “No Bullets Spent” lyric video below.3.
