The costs are already being felt across the city
Independent business owners in Nottingham have spoken out about their concerns as the cost of living and energy crisis continue to soar. It comes ahead of increases in the energy price cap which are expected to hit homeowners and businesses in October.
"We have certainly noticed an increase as everything is going skywards as cheese prices are soaring and maturing room prices which require a lot of refrigeration and temperature control so when your contracts expire then it's very difficult to get one with a decent rate," he said. "We have a new prime minister coming in and I think the energy issue has to be the top priority otherwise we are going to end up with mass unemployment and no jobs because businesses are going which can't happen. We are in a sector here where it is all independent businesses and we have to band together. Hopefully, we will all come through it as and when," he said.
"It's going to be a struggle in October for pubs to keep the lights on but even for bar staff who might be on minimum wage. If you are having to pay for extra things will you have the money to go out to pubs? Is it going to have to be a once-a-month thing instead of once-a-week."
