We almost named this recipe 'Big Bowl of Comfort' but we thought that may get confusing
I made this mostly as written, but I used red split lentils instead of yellow split peas. The split lentils cooked in about 20 minutes.I really enjoyed this recipe! The yogurt and onions really save the dish. As others mentioned below, the cook-time on the peas is a little off. I planned ahead and they ended up taking about 30-40 minutes overall. The spices are excellent, and it's a remarkably simple recipe.Excellent recipe- I’ll be making this again and again.
Due to this flavour peaked at 15 mins and then became more dull. In future I will fry onions, ginger and spices separately and add to split peas about 15 mins before theyre cooked.Awesome, healthier recipe. I swapped out white rice for black rice, which can be found at most grocery stores these days. Split peas took a bit longer to cook, but not anywhere near 90minutes, more like a solid 25.
