The Sphere arena in Las Vegas recently opened to rave reviews, and the company has awarded its CEO, James Dolan, a potentially valuable special options grant in recognition of his role in the design and execution of the project.
Special grants of options, which allow holders to buy shares at a predetermined price, aren’t uncommon in the entertainment industry. Dolan had total compensation of $16.3 million in the company’s fiscal year ending in June. He also was paid $11 million as executive chairman of Madison Square Garden Sports , which owns the New York Knicks and Rangers. He’s also CEO of Madison Square Garden Entertainmen t , which was spun off from Sphere earlier this year. His fiscal 2023 Sphere compensation reflects his work at MSGE as well.
“There isn’t anyone more excited than me. This one has my name all over it,” Dolan told Barron’s just before the Sphere opened in late September.
