Playing and coaching in the Basketball World Cup this summer seems as though it helped plenty of people get ready for the NBA season. Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves says playing for USA Basketball was a great learning experience that could be a springboard into big things in the NBA year.

Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves poses for photos during the NBA basketball team’s media day, Monday, Oct. 2, 2023, in El Segundo, Calif. Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton is fouled as he cuts between Atlanta Hawks guard Bogdan Bogdanovic and forward De’Andre Hunter during the second half of an NBA preseason basketball game in Indianapolis, Monday, Oct. 16, 2023. Pacers defeated the Hawks 116-112.

“I’ve been able to learn a lot from a lot of really good players, a lot of really good coaches that basically just see that I belong,” said Reaves, the sharpshooting guard for the Los Angeles Lakers. “Obviously, there’s things to work on, but I think I can hit the ground running from the start of the year … and attack the NBA season.

Wagner and brother Moritz Wagner played for Germany, which beat the U.S. in the semifinals — a team that just happened to have Magic forward Paolo Banchero on its roster. Indiana’s Tyrese Haliburton, another player for the U.S. this summer, said he went into his first World Cup knowing it would make him better.
