The school received a £2200 grant from the council’s sustainability and climate change fund as well as £1000 from its food strategy fund.

“Getting our young people involved at an early stage is a great way for them to understand just how important it is to improve not only our own health and wellbeing but that of our communities and the positive consequences it has for the climate as a whole.” The extra plants and flowers were sold to the school community in late spring to raise funds to buy seeds, compost and other materials for the work to get underway again this year.

And the school’s junior garden ambassador, P4 pupil Mason, added: “It’s fun to be in the garden. My favourite bit is digging up the carrots, potatoes and beetroot. I feel happy in the garden.”
