Kevin Parkourana, 31, faces 13 felony counts in the June 1 rampage that left three people dead and seven others injured.

After twice refusing to make the trip, a San Jose man relented Thursday and appeared in court to face a slew of felony charges stemming from an early June rampage across the South Bay that left three people dead and seven others injured.

Wearing a yellow jail-issued shirt, Kevin Parkourana, 31, was arraigned at the Santa Clara County Hall of Justice — reversing course from a week-long holdout that saw him unwilling to leave the Santa Clara County jail. He stood in a doorway just outside of the courtroom during the entirety of his brief hearing, largely out of view from anyone in the gallery.

Court records detailing Parkourana’s criminal past arrests outline a history of mental health holds and felonies — including bomb-making and threatening a man with a dagger — and note that he was on active probation when the rampage happened. Parkourana was also arrested in January in San Jose on suspicion of an alleged hate crime attack on his transgender roommate, but he was not charged.

From there, Parkourana drove north to Union and Curtner avenues, where he reportedly rear-ended a motorcyclist stopped at a red light, knocking the 67-year-old rider onto the roadway. Police say he then drove toward Campbell and the Pruneyard shopping center, where he hit a woman pushing a shopping cart. He was next seen around 4 p.m. in downtown San Jose, where he allegedly rear-ended a motorist 10th and East Santa Clara streets, then got out and stabbed that driver.
