“The Read & Feed is something we do in the summertime,” Barnwell said. “We kick it off around Juneteenth, and we host it once a month.”
Food trucks and entertainment will also be provided. Attendees will have a chance to enjoy the popular storytime sessions hosted by the bookstore where special guests read to children. “In many urban school districts, our children continue to struggle due to poor instruction, institutional racism and the Black community’s tendency to overemphasize sports and entertainment to the detriment of academic excellence,” he said.
