The former Oklahoma quarterback continues to make the most of his career rebirth with the Buccaneers.
The former Oklahoma quarterback bounced back from a loss against an NFL juggernaut in the Eagles with a dominant division road win in a crucial game. Tampa Bay knocked off New Orleans at the Superdome 26-9, and Mayfield was nearly perfect.
Mayfield carved up the Saints defense for 246 passing yards and three touchdowns on 25-of-32 passing. His only mishap came in the second quarter when he threw an interception in New Orleans territory. The Buccaneers got the ball right back, however, and Mayfield made up for the interception with a touchdown pass toTampa Bay was in control for most of the game, but New Orleans tried to make it interesting in the fourth quarter. After a field goal, the Saints cut the lead to 17-9.
Coming into the season, the Saints were the overwhelming favorites to take over the NFC South and win the division. Mayfield and the Buccaneers have had something to say about that, though. After stomping the Saints in New Orleans, Mayfield’s Bucs are now 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the NFC South. “It shows the accountability within our building," Mayfield said of the surprising start."Know when to do your job, not letting any outside noise effect us. Now, the narrative is going to flip and we have to keep that mindset even more. You can’t change whether people are patting you on the back or talking trash about you but we’ve known all along what we have in this building."
