The new PS5 has a new motherboard and cooling.

has taken a look at the internals and discovered a lot of changes. Sony is using a new, smaller motherboard for the PS5, different cooling, and has even changed the SSD enclosure.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a redesigned cooling solution on the PS5. Sony shipped a revised model last year. The new motherboard and heatsink on this 2022 PS5 now weighs around 2.5 pounds according to Evans, that’s a pound lighter than the original design.
