Wear the Peace is a fashion brand with a mission. It donates 100% of profits to humanitarian causes, and also donates one piece of clothing for every article sold to refugees. Founder Murad Nofal is inspired by his own family's refugee journey and volunteering at a large camp in Jordan.

. He was appalled by the horrendous conditions in the overpopulated camp, which had evolved into a permanent residency for many. He spent hours exploring and taking to people who lived there. Furthermore, he thought of his own great-grandparents, who still live in a refugee camp in Jordan. “I kept asking myself, why do some people have to live like this?” Nofal says. “Why is it that the place someone is born determines the quality of their life?” He was only 17 years old at the time, but he committed to finding a way to personally make an impact. Eventually, he decided to build a brand that gives back through donations and shares loving, peaceful messages with the world.“What makes me the happiest in life is to drop off Wear the Peace clothing at theoffice in Chicago,” says Nofal.

The greatest challenges Nofal has faced in building Wear the Peace is that refugee work has become highly politicized in the U.S. in recent years. “Many small businesses that support refugees are seeing their ads pulled as part of large social media platform bans on political advertising,” Nofal says. “Unfortunately, this has impacted us heavily in not being able to reach as many people to let them know about our mission and brand.

To aspiring changemakers, Nofal offers this advice. “Do something you love, something that brings you happiness. Society teaches us to chase material success. I’m not here to knock anyone's goals, but if you set a goal of making a positive impact on the world then you will always be happy. Remember, we are all human. We all bleed the same color, so care for your fellow brothers and sisters around the world.
